Nancy Hill
|
After teaching in Thailand for two years, Nancy was completely new to the gardening industry when she met Lewis in 1969. She quickly grew to love gardening, and has been passionate about it ever since. This same enthusiasm is present in the Storey books Nancy has written with her husband. Their most recent title is The Lawn & Garden Owner's Manual, a landscape and maintenance guide for keeping beautiful grounds year round. Together they have also written Daylilies and Bulbs, which received the following acclaim from Gardening Columnist Virginia Greiner of The Washington Times: "...packed with sensible advice and hints...." Likewise, their third book, Successful Perennial Gardening, received similar praise from The Washington Times: "A big subject nicely broken down, filled with practical, proven advice from two veterans," while Denver Botanic Gardens compliments, "...a wealth of material by authors who clearly have a passion for their subject." |

As a popular pastime, perennial gardening is regarded with equal parts admiration and apprehension. Admiration because the beauty of a perennial bed can be enjoyed for all time; and apprehension because the myriad plant varieties and their growing requirements can be daunting. Successful Perennial Gardening is the work of two gardening experts, Lewis and Nancy Hill, who bring the breadth of their experience to this subject, and have created a volume of enduring quality.
This is a user-friendly guide to the challenges and joys of perennial gardening--less than a botanical encyclopedia, but much more than a volume of garden or species descriptions. The authors' approach will resolve the quandaries of those new to perennials as well as meet the needs of the sophisticated horticulturist.
Everything is here:
- A complete section on perennial care and cultivation
- 16 theme gardens
- More than 150 species descriptions
- Full-color photographs
- Species illustrations
- A glossary of gardening terms

Daylilies--available in a rainbow of glowing colors and combinations of colors; able to survive with little or no care in a wide range of climates; boasting a variety of shapes and sizes; suitable for any kind of landscape; drought resistant and almost disease and insect free; adaptable to various soil and light conditions. By all accounts, daylilies are, indeed, the perfect perennial. In celebration of these satisfying plants, garden writers Lewis and Nancy Hill share their wisdom of their more than 40 years of experience growing daylilies--experience that has led the Hills to an unabashed obsession with the daylily.
