America's Song: The Story of ‘Yankee Doodle' Stuart Murray |

This is the first complete chronicle of the story of "Yankee Doodle," perhaps the best-known tune in all the world. Rudyard Kipling in Vermont: Birthplace of the Jungle Books Stuart Murray |
In 1892, when Rudyard Kipling first came to live in Vermont, he was himself much like the United States—brash, young, and swiftly becoming world famous.
As with many Englishmen of his day, Kipling looked down on the States, never imaging that in four years he would be back in England, thinking about America and wondering"how the deuce it has wound itself around my heartstrings the way it has." During those productive years in Vermont, Kipling wrote The Jungle Books, his most enduring work, and on a remote hillside built a home named "Naulakha," a Hindustani term meaning "jewel beyond price." In this time, there was great joy for Rudyard, as two daughters were born to him and his American wife, Caroline. There was also great sorrow. —Stuart Murray, from the Forward Paperback Signed Editions $ 20.95 |
