In this book, Dr. Robert Charman makes a compelling analysis of what's gone wrong with the doctor-patient relationship in the face of impersonal modern technology and soaring health costs, and offers unique prescriptions for developing a close interaction–what he calls the "healing team"–of patient and physician. He writes from the perspective of a dedicated physician with more than 25 years in general practice and as a highly respected member of the faculty of the Dartmouth Medical School.

"A clear, well-written book... for the patient and the doctor, both of whom it urges to play a role in developing new mechanisms to determine the quality and availability of medical care in the future." –Thomas M. Debevoise, Dean Emeritus, Vermont Law School
